Will Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Ever Be an NCAA Recognized Sport?
Do you think that Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), an ever growing and popular sport, will make it’s way to be a recognized NCAA sport? Dana White, when asked what will come first: college MMA or MMA in the Olympics, he answered college MMA. Wondering what the Yahoo Answers community thinks.
For MMA to be recognized as an NCAA sport, there will have to be another woman’s sport added to colleges due to Title 9 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Title_IX).
It’s a possibility, but it is going to have a lot of hurdles to jump before it gets there. First hurdle would be to get it legalized in every state.
it should be mma is watched more than hockey
Doesn’t NCAA usually supports team sports, don’t they?
I really don’t think NCAA will be so quick to adapt a very politically risky sport as mma.
Olympics should adapt MMA seeing as how MMA was an olympic sport initially. But Olympics are even more conservative than NCAA is, so I agree that MMA probably won’t become an olymipc sport. That and I don’t think Dana wants to see UFC fighter fight in the olymipics.
they are already pushing for college MMA. they have a league but its not like actual schools yet its just college students competing. We are close to College MMA and MMA scholarships
