What Should I Get and What Size?
So I recently am getting into MMA… im going to start training soon and I just had a few questions. What equipment should I get?
I already have the mouth piece
As for the gloves what brand should I get? I saw a .17 grappling gloves at walmart. Im going to study Braz.JuJitsu. Should I get those as starters? Its Everlast btw.
Please inform… I am a newbie to MMA
Your instructor will tell you exactly what you need. (they sell grappling gloves at wal-mart?!)
i just started to… ive got a 100lb century punching bag 12 oz addidas boxing gloves, if your doing BJJ then you need open thumbed gloves so yea that probably would be the best choice for you, as for the brand, i like everlast, addidas
Your instructor will let you know what you need for in-class training. You might want to hold off on buying equipment until you see what you need.
Get a Cup. I’m serious.
You can scratch gloves if you’re going to be working with Brazillian JuJitsu. There’s no punching in that, so there’s no need for any padding. If anything, you’re probably going to have to purchase a Gi if you’re working with BJJ. Although MMA uses strictly no-gi, chances are your BJJ instructor will teach you both no-gi and go.
As gloves go, when starting out the only thing you’ll really need are bag gloves. Until you start getting into striking such as Muay Thai or Boxing. Then you’re probably going to have to get chest protector, shin pads, and gloves. Don’t get competition gloves, get boxing/thai gloves for this as well as head gear and so forth to increase protection.
It isn’t until the very end do you really need to buy a good set of MMA training gloves when you bring your stand up, take down, and ground game together.
Though do buy hand wraps. Preferrably purchase yourself a 130 inch roll. You’re going to have to learn to wrap your hands so you might as well start early on. As well as the fact that you can easily use these for bag work rather than a glove.
I’m not the best source on this, but I’ve heard Everlast is crap now.
I rarely saw any decent equipments being sold at supermarkets or any stores that sells sports equipments. Just get a glove that your coach recommends. You wouldn’t want to end up having some "toy" gloves and end up embarrassing yourself.
