anaerobic high cardio workouts
plyometrics <- google them, they are you best friend and worst enemy
mix your weight lifting up
one day to high reps of low weight to get your muscles used to pushing weight around for a time period not a mass amount
then the next day cardio
then the next day push hard, heavy weight, look for fast explosive power, push heavy weights for low reps
the light weights would be similar to punching and kicking, and keeping moving and going and pushing forward
the plyo’s do wonders for your cardio (DO NOT RUN FOR CARDIO!!!!!!!!!! you want a sprinter body not a skinny shrimpy cross country runner body)
then the heavy weights make for similar to lifting your opponent up, shooting in fast for a takedown
look up some strong man workouts, those are usually real life tools (sledgehammer and a big tire =]) and develop real functioning strength not just getting one muscle bigger but your body as a whole
remember to stretch, its often overlooked
and i cant tell you how much fun it is to pull guard and then stick your foot in someones face
look up Sean Sherk on youtube, hes an MMA fighter, with no amazing stand up, no omg! ju jitsu, he outworks his opponents, wears them down and dominates them
Ummm…just a guess….workout? Just do lotsa cardio or circuit training, don’t worry about strength as much as the cardio. Strength will come later. Get to a point when you are about to puke, then push yourself harder. I am not saying throw up, but when sparring or grappling, its the cardio that is what it may feel like. Have fun! Don’t worry to much, the classes will get you huffing and puffing in no time.
Well, if you’re just starting MMA, it should be at least six months before you get a fight, probably longer. There’s a good chance your coach will provide you with a training routine, and some gyms actually have a devoted conditioning program.
On your own, my suggestion is circuit training. Go buy a round timer (best training investment you’ll ever make) and exercise for, say, five minutes straight, doing a different exercise every minute. For example:
Minute 1: pushups
Minute 2: jump squats
Minute 3: twisting sit-ups
Minute 4: alternating single-arm clean using light to moderate weight
Minute 5: jumping jacks
Rest for one minute, then begin again. Repeat for 3-5 rounds. You can mix up the exercises however you’d like.
go to a mma gym let them handle the rest.you probably will not have a fight for at least 6months.
