What Kind of Gloves ?? Mma Training or Competion?
i do mma and jiu jitsu. and i have boxing gloves but now i want some mma gloves just to have. they are not required i just want them. sjoould i get competion gloves or training gloves and what is the difference. thanks
Training gloves. They have thicker padding and you may not be allowed to spar with competition gloves. It depends from club to club.
You are allowed to spar with competition gloves before a fight, though. That depends also from club to club.
You don’t need competition gloves, since you’ll be handed them for free to be used when you fight.
But if you buy the right brand, you might be able to compete with your own gloves.
It really depends on you. If you wanted something to train with to get used to them while you are grappling, I’d go with competition gloves. But if your working on strikes too, I’d get the grappling glove (7 oz.) or the striking glove (also 7 oz.). But if you want them just to have them I’d get the competitions gloves.
Some of the differences (I use Everlast so that’s what I’m going by here):
Competition glove: 4 or 5 oz. with an open palm and no thumb. Ok if training grappling only.
Grappling glove: 7 oz. also an open palm but has more padding and the padding goes farther down towards the wrist. It also has a thumb and it has padding on it.
Striking gloves: 7 oz. Open palm and a thumb. Also has more padding, but the end resembles more of a boxing glove.
If your not working on strikes and grappling together, I’d stick with the boxing gloves or muy thai gloves. Remember while training the more padding the better to protect your hands. Also always wrap your hands, there are a lot of little bones that can break in your hand.
Hope this helps.
