Starting Muay thai/MMA Soon, What Should I Expect…and What About Equipment?
Well im planning on starting muay thai/ mma, most i wil want to put most of my time in muay thai.
what equipment will i need for my first day?
what kinda of clothes should i wear, i know i dont have to wear shoes on the mat
wil i need my own set of gloves on my first day?
hand wraps?
will i need a gi for brazilian jiu jitsu?
thanks any help is much appreciated
If you have time, getting some handwraps might help. Look into getting a mouth guard as well.
Other than that: You’ll get gloves, shin guards, and so forth. Your teacher might as for you eventually to get your own set, but you don’t have to necessarily initially.
I’ve been in MMA for about a month or so. Just today I bought gloves, a double mouthguard, shin guards, but I still need a head guard (My local store doesn’t have the right kind: You’re going to need boxing style, and that’s IF they let you wear it for practice or sparring).
I would say that you’ll need some shorts (Athletic will be fine to start, but the Muay Thai/Kickboxing/Boxing shorts will be what you need eventually of course), and a shirt you can sweat in if they let you wear it again. Some do initially, and others don’t.
As for BJJ: In my MMA school (Which has BJJ/Small Circle Jujutsu), we do no-gi for some of it, and gi at other times. My teacher believes it is important to train in both. I don’t think that opinion is uncommon, especially in MMA teachers. They are almost different disiciplines.
Good luck.
For your first day, all will be provided. Don’t worry about equipment until you’ve already been to class a few times. Your teacher will let you know when you should start buying stuff. Until then, you could always use the loaner equipment.
pain
1st Day:
Mouth guard
groin protection
shorts
tshirt or "underarmor" type shirt
water
lack of ego
I have trained in 4 different MMA/cage fighting gyms and each one didn’t use all the same equipment and some I didn’t have to bring any equipment.
Good luck!!
It would depend on the gym, you should ask them
As for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, yes a gi is always a must. Even those who dont want "sport jiu jitsu" and focus on fights, believe that the gi is important to be more technical ( less effort, smarter ) in the way you’d submit others.
Thats how most see it. Now especially for a beginnner I think its probably a must have.
Usually, you just need gym type clothes for the first day, but check with the instructor. You will need to get wraps and boxing clothes by next couple of classes. Also probably sparring equipment within a few months.
As for Jujitsu, some instructors require a gi, some don’t. Usually on the first day you don’t need it though. Again check with the instructors.
Poser you have no idea what your getting into.
it depends if you have ever trained at all, as to how soon you will need your own equpiment… but a cup and a mouth piece are a must… cup is important for drills you will or should be doing in the first month, and dont spar without a mouthpiece… biting your tongue or cheek hurts for a week or two… have fun training … please dont quit the first time someone hits you harder than you wanted to be hit, and dont let it piss you off, because it’s not personal… after you take a good beating, thank your sparring partner, and ask them for tips, like .. "how did you keep hitting me with the same shot over and over, what do i need to do to avoid it.." if you treat it that way you will get much better much faster
Expect to be pushed to your limits (stamina wise) expect a few bruises, some muscle aching after training and a general good feeling about yourself!
