Is My Body Type a Disadvantage in Martial Arts or Mixed Martial Arts?
I’m getting interested in this hobby. I however have a very different body type that i think may be disadvantages. I know i can overcome this so i don’t want answers saying that nothing matters. Ok first of all i have a long thin neck. Also I am tall but most of it is because i have really long legs. So i have long thin legs and a high center of gravity. So will these me disadvantages and if so do you have any tips to help me out. Thanks.
Not nessesairly….I don’t have a perfect image of what you look like but long limbs generally mean alot of leverage via the mechanical adantage. There is not much benifit to having a long neck but it is not the end of the world. Long tall guys are great body types though. If your arms are long too then you should be able to do well.
Long neck could be a bit of problem, but having a long leg is actually an advantage. I probably wrong, but I imagine you as a rather skinny tall guy, if I was right then you might consider getting some more weight. Once you gain enough weight, then you’ll be really good.
If you are only interested in it as a "hobby" I would recommend not doing it!
As if you are only going to put minimal effort in why bother?!
If you take it seriously… having long limbs can be an advantage especially in striking situation and making your opponent keep their distance or make it harder for they to close the gap. Something like "Tai Kwon Do’ that uses predominantly leg would be what I recommend for you.
As for the long neck ..I would not look at grappling as there is far too much damage that can be done and if you have along skinny neck it will become a target for submission or damage. So would avoid MMA, Bjj, Judo or any other grappling forms.
