so does anybody know a good estimate of how much its gonna cost to get started i.e. gear, gym prices etc.
also some tips would be nice
thanks
honest answer ?
No idea
First you should look at what prices the club charges, also good is knowing how much a local boxing and judo/wrestling club would charge, sometimes its cheaper to train in 2 different schools and spar MMA rules than joining an MMA club.
Also, the equipment you need depends on what the gym offers, some demand you bring all of your own gear. Others will have club gear you can use while training.
Cheapest gear you can find is often on the internet, ebay or http://www.combatsports.com/, pro-tip: stay away from everlast gear, they neverlast.
At bare minimum, mouthguard and handwraps (not including plain shorts or old t-shirts). These cost … $7 ?
If you do get handwraps, make sure they are 180 inches and stretch, not pure cotton.
I can only tell you how much it cost me.
* Muay Thai – $60/month, 5 days a week, 2.5 hours.
* Judo – $30/month, 3 days a week, 2 hours.
* Mouthguard + handwraps – $7
* Shin guards, and MMA gloves – $60 (optional for me, i just like having my own gear, ebay)
* A pair of Athletic underwear – $15 (these are form fitting, absorb sweat, anti bacterial quickly washable underwear, its so that you dont accidentally show your nuts while training, from wal-mart, optional for most)
* Basketball shorts and old t-shirts – FREE, you should have some already, if not, buy some cheap ones from wal-mart, dont get affliction/ufc/whatever shirts, you arent fooling anyone at the club)
* Judo Gi – $40
* Duffle bag – $20
* Water bottle – $2 (just buy a sport energy drink and re-use the bottle)
Thats about it really, most of the stuff i bought are optional and as a whole, club fees costs me around $90 a month for tons of training. Whatever you buy, dont go with the most expensive flashy brand, it wont help you train.
It can costs from 75 to 100 a month (at least it does around Philly). The point is to make it worth the investment by going as much as you can.
WELL MOUTH PEACE…5.00
GLOVES ANYWHERE FROM 20$ TO 100$ HEAD GEAR 45$
SHIN PADS 30$ AVERAGE GYM PASS 100$ TO 300$ A MONTH…
I WOULD SAY PERSONALLY IVE BEEN DOING MARTIAL ARTS SINCE I WAS 6 AND I HAVE 2 BLACK BELTS AS WELL I WAS A MONK IN JAPAN FOR A FEW YEARS AND HAVE DONE PLENTY OF PROFESSIONAL FIGHTS…
TRY DOING YOGA FOR A FEW MONTHS BEFORE GOING TO THE GYM TO TRAIN…BECOME FLEXIBLE AND NIMBLE….THEN GO AND START TRAINING…I DO 2 HOURS OF YOGA A DAY AND I ALSO DO 2 HOUR MEDITATIO EVERYDAY AS WELL AS 6000PUNCHES AND 4000KICKS AND 3000ELBOW AND 3000 KNEES EVERYDAY…THINGS WILL BE HARD…BUT IF YOU HAVE THE DRIVE YOU WILL BE FINE…JUST KILL YOUR EGO…AND WORK AT IT SELFLESSLY…AND YOU’L DO JUST FINE…IF YOU EVER NEED ANYMORE ADVISE THERE MY MYSPACE MAN TAKE CARE…
Forget the MMA club, join your school wrestling team. You’ll get good training and experience without paying all that money. Plus it will give you just a small taste (like 1/4 to 1/3) of what trainning for the UFC would be like.
I want to piggy back on the guy who told you to take high school wrestling.
ABSOLUTELY.
AND…take up some taekwondo or karate during your down-time from wrestling.
You’re young enough to be able to get black belts in two complementary arts before you approach an MMA club. I’d become a high school wrestling champ, black belt in a strikng art, then go MMA. I bet you’d be ready to be pro by the time you’re 22.
If its a superb gym and very rich then mostly it will go by a yearly membership for a freaking lot of money. But if its an average gym then it should be like 100. Well where i live that how it is.
Mouthpeice=5 dollars
4 oz. gloves=30 dollars
Having the knowledge to know that MMA is a complete slap in the face to any serious martial art=PRICELESS
dont go to a MMA gym go take a martial arts, it might be cheaper, but dont sell out for a crappy school.
