How Would My Training Translate to Mma?
im going to do mma for 4 months every year and i was wondering how my taekwondo(hands up),hapkido, wrestling would do in mma. Im gonna train taekwondo/hapkido all year round and do wrestling during wrestling season during the season. and i wonna train mma during the summer only. i was wondering how my training would translate to mma. i dont got to a mcdojo cause we fight with out hands up and train full contact with and with out gear one of the instructors train bjj and another one trains muay thai and i think if they saw that the training is usless they would have quit doing it a long time ago
i think you would be good at sprawl and brawl/ground and pound your submissions are going to be really weak but ask the trainers about controlling the person and defending submission on the ground also find sparing partners to work on your stand up with take downs its quiet different when you have to worry about take downs but your wrestling training should kick in
No way to know unless you sparr MMA.
good luck!
Hapkido is a mixed martial art, albeit in the traditional sense of offering fighting techniques for stand up and ground fighting in addition to weapons training.
By all means, continue training how you like, but unless you want to compete in MMA, training at an MMA gym shouldn’t give you anything self defense wise that Hapkido already has (or will).
Hm… sounds very similar to Guy Mezger, who had strong wrestling and kickboxing when he went into MMA.
My concern at this point would be your submissions/sub defense, and your ability to fight off your back. But if you’ve got a coach who knows BJJ, then you can ask him for help with that. Otherwise, it seems like a pretty good start.
