I’m Filipino I don’t think you can learn the MMA you see in America like UFC or Pride but don’t they have alot Filipino Martial arts schools you can learn, you can mix Filipino martial arts and compete in Universal Reality Combat Championship.

Mixed Martial Arts means mixing various martial arts styles in one so you can use these Filipino Martial arts.

Yaw-Yan = It is Filipino kickboxing that resembles Muay Thai but differs in the hip-torquing motion as well as the downward-cutting nature of its kicks, Yaw-yan also differs from Muay Thai because its practitioners can deliver their attacks from long range.

Dumog = Filipino wrestling, techniques encompass a variety of pushes, pulls, weight shifts and joint locks designed to move the opponent, often taking advantage of their weight and direction of force to throw them off balance. Some grapples resemble jujitsu like leg lockings, I’m not sure if these jointlocks are legal but by the way I see it you can use them to get your opponent to submit. There is also atleast one ground fighting technique I know in Dumong that works in a MMA fight.

Panantukan = Another filipino boxing art, you can use the knee strikes and elbows to wear down your opponent. The kicks and knees are targeted to below your opponents waist so you can wear down your opponents stance while striking his legs.

These arts may get you started in the world of Mixed Martial Arts, I don’t know every Filipino martial art but if you try and mix these styles you should have an effective Filipino Mixed Martial Art.

Well then you will have to settle for an art that is taught as a sport if there are no MMA gyms in your area, at the very least it can give you background for later on if you want to continue training in MMA (many MMA fighters train in one art & THEN implement other styles in which is alot better than learning how to move & attack 3 different ways + meshing it into one style)

You dont need an MMa school.
What you need is a base style like muay thai boxing wrestling or bjj.
You really do need a base style either striking or grappling!

Start by finding a school of another striking martial art or grappling art, and when you’re able to, search for an MMA gym and move near it and start there.
