@93diegob of course not. The guy is just being funny with those names. MMA’s grappling boils down to a combination of wrestling, BJJ, Judo and Sambo (all essentially derived from the same source anyway but with their own emphases and game plans).
@eddit Some would say that to “explode into it” would be a waste of energy. Clearly, the technique was effective & all that was needed. Judo is called the “gentle way” due to it’s philosophy of restraint & avoiding excessive force which may risk unnecessary injury, or even death.
Now imagine a well executed Judo throw like this or any other for that matter, done to a clawed assailant, which adds more impetus and momentum, and on concrete, side walk, stairs, ash-fault! It could wind up being fatal for the receiver. A fast, intense, powerful Judo throw on the street, especially landing on any of your shoulders, head, back could easily cause a concussion, paralysis or even death. A skilled throw can come explosively out of nowhere surprisingly.
@bobo007xx sure it was. harai goshi = hip sweep. and thats what he did. sure his arms were somewhere else and the landing was quite a bit diffrent, but still its an harai goshi!
@bobo007xx with the leg(i mean its still a hip throw,but the leg is doing an outward sweep with the hip throw.i learned under mitz yamashita.)long time ago
@ForwardsAbsolutely I think you’re right. Harai Makikomi I’d say.
do those fighting styles really exist? horn jitsu and cowboy karate?
OMG its Guy Mezger coming out of retirement!
very nice how he executed it pefectly.
wow the harai goshi is the best!
Fight starts @ 3:15
That was a pretty weak throw. Well executed, but it looked like he didn’t exactly explode into it.
ippon at 4:34

Cory’s hip going into Joe’s side looks to be what did the damage!
@bobo007xx – Please explain why that hip throw with a sweeping leg was not harai goshi in you opinion…
@sombojoe my judo is rusty,but i thought that a harai goshi is an OUTWARD curve sweep,not a straight up bac k sweep(. osato gari)excuse my japanese.
