Only a fckin idiot would tell you that it’s a good idea, but that’s what you get on yahoo answers a bunch of stupid little 13 year old boys whose only experience is watching television.
No it’s not safe, not unless you wanna break your wrist. Those "huge boxing gloves" go over properly taped hands to ensure that you don’t get hurt workin the bag.
I’ve hurt myself on the bag a few times to know that you should always take precautions.
You can. My gym has us use boxing gloves, though. As a go-between, there are gloves in boxing glove shape, but they are smaller and normally weigh 8-10 oz. I think they’re called bag gloves, but I’m not sure where they’re sold.
Go a round or two at your heavy bag with your gloves on and if your hands hurt during or after the impacts then you might want to look for another pair of gloves. If your hands and wrists are just fine, those gloves are perfect for the job. If you need/want another pair of gloves, centurymartialarts.com sells some bag gloves that look like MMA gloves; here’s the link:

Personally, I love these gloves and agree with you on using lighter MMA gloves for training. Here’s the link to the gloves I train with:

I either use hand wraps or Century MMA Gloves to train with.
Virgil shut up. You hurt yourself because you punch limp wristed and probably suck.
OP yes they can be used. However most aren’t made for that kind of use and depending on the material of the bag, can be torn up pretty quickly. No glove regardless of size is going to protect your wrist if you hit at a bad angle. Although boxing gloves may protect your skin better (like over the knuckles).
