Best Way to Train for MMA With a Limited Budget?? How to Be Like Rocky?
Ok so I have been doing martial arts since I started doing Muay Thai when I was 11. Now I’m 22, I’m fresh out of college, and I am broke!!! Anyway I am getting on my feet and getting my money/work/bills stuff sorted out, but it will be a while until I can train at the holy glowing MMA gym we have here in Hollywood, because its seriously expensive. So I want a Rocky-brand training regiment, but for MMA. Right now I have a membership at a gym so run down (its in an abandoned jail), it make’s rocky’s impoverished gym look like a 24 hour fitness. But it has the basic weightlifting equipment, bench press, squats, dumbells, barbells, stationary bikes, etc. And they have a serious boxing retinue. I have a boxing trainer who is doing wonders for my punching, my power, and my range. But I am afraid I am letting my Muay Thai and BJJ experience go down the drain while I just do boxing. I’ve got very little money, basically living day to day, but I still want to train like a champ. Any ideas??
yeah i trained muay thai in indiana, but I live in california now, so I don’t know anybody here really
You have to find someone with access to mat space. There’s simply not another way to do it. All the weight rooms in the world can’t replace live rolling. As unrealistic as the concepts of a rocky training camp are, you have to understand, in the flicks he’s not only supposed to be a natural who has Foreman-like destructive punches but he’s also a veteran of something like fifty bouts, so he already knows how to scrap. Even still in the more realistic earlier pictures he was constantly being taught technique and did his conditioning nonstop in between.
The moral of the story is there are too few substitutes for technique, you have to network with people in your area or make a drive a bit out of the way. I know a lot of guys who train MMA on the cheap but you at least need the facilities, MMA is not a poor man’s sport unfortunately. Your best bet is meeting up with some guys who spar/roll after hours at a school.
Hope it works out for you.
maybe if you have a friend in the same situation, you two could train MMA together, just need a matt and pads and you could either get training drills from the internet or books ect
Rocky had a personal trainer.
I’m dying to know where you trained Muay Thai 11 years ago. It was barely heard of in this country then. What happened to your trainer? If you were with him for so long I doubt that he would refuse to work out a payment arrangement with you for training.
