Best Way to Start Mma Training With No Money?
hi,I’m 18 and want to start training to become a professional mma fighter. my only problem is that i don’t have the money to pay for the classes.if anyone has a good alternative or any type of advice i would really appreciate the help.
Well first of all you need to start getting into fighting shape, i recommended investing in a jump rope (shouldn’t be more than $10), running shoes (you can some good ones for $20-$40 on sale), and one of those in door pullup bars (like the iron gym one, should run $20-$35 depending on which one you get. but id spring for the better one). Most of your starter workouts for MMA should consist of bodyweight exercises anyways. If you can afford it i would also recommended getting a practice dummy (one that you can throw around, practice striking on, etc) or a heavy bag (if thats more within your means) but defiantly get the equipment i stated above before anything else.
Then be sure to either run or jump rope everyday (both high intensity interval, meaning you sprint for a certain amount of time and then rest. try to work your way up to 3 minutes of high intensity with 1 minute rest, but start off at 1 minute on and 20 seconds off. try to make the rest period 1/3 of what you are sprinting for, but dont go over a minute of rest as you wont be able to rest longer than that in your MMA bouts. so the less rest the better), and do a full body workout 3 days a week (mon, wed, fri, just make sure you get a days rest between workouts). Just make sure you at least one day to rest your body (preferably sunday)
Secondly see if your town’s park and rec department has any boxing, wrestling, judo, jujitsu, kickboxing, muay thai, or even self defense classes. They are usually inexpensive and can be a great place to develop a good base for your MMA skills. If you cant find any classes around then see if you can organize grappling or boxing with fellow friends interested in MMA 2-3 days a week and trying to learn new things from the internet, if you can avoid it dont rely solely on the internet to learn chokes and some of the more complex submissions as if done incorrectly they can result in serious injury,
Thirdly, getting into MMA can be expensive at first. If you aren’t already then seek employment and out a portion of your paycheck into a separate account so you can save up some money (while earning a small amount of interest) to put towards starting in Mixed Martial Arts.
Good luck with getting started!
Go on u tube and practise some basics, it takes years 2 become a pro
Get into impecible shape with fighter specific workouts for punching power, leg power etc
buy a medicine ball and get ur body contidioned to take punches and kicks. If you can get a heavybag, use it to increase ur punching power. U should get the speed bag too, and while ur using the speed bag, let it hit u on the face every now and again, get used to taking one on the face.
Watch youtube basic vids and learn to shadowbox in the stance with proper form, incorporating punches, kicks, sprawls
Have a vivid imagination when ur shadowboxing, visualise attacks and block them, counters, sprawls
Practice your form for the takedown. Practice take down range and working off a setup (1,2, shoot)
Practice takedowns on the heavybag. Unhooked off course.
Obviously at some point you have to get to a gym and fight vs resisting opponents. Learning the BJJ ground game is also harder by yourself, so u definitely need to get to a gym for that. Even for striking and takedowns and takedown defence, you will need to practice it against resisting opponents
BE HUMBLE. BE GOOD. DONT DO THIS FOR THE WRONG REASONS OR U WILL BE MORE LIKELY TO FAIL
Pray to God. If you dont want to be specific with any religion, just think of God as ‘the force’
You are already 18 and if you are still on school, then have yourself acquire some part time job, wherein an amount you may gain from those is something that can support your wants to enroll on some legit MMA gym.
Because having a trainer personally is the most efficient way, if you want to earn some efficient and accurate skills and knowledge.
Good luck

well if you search the net you should be able to find a good home based workout routine for mma to get you into fighting shape. But then theres the big part, learning the technique. try get ahold of as much instructional videos as you can and study them inside out, this site here offers many http://www.bestmmatorrents.com/. some specific ivdeo sets i HIGHLY recommend you get ahold of are MMA ultimate setos, which features Andersin SIlva and Antonio nogueira, and Bas Ruttens big dvds of combat which covers almt every aspect of the MMA Fight game.
GOOD LUCK!
if you are still in school get on the wrestling team.. then in college, wrestle it is free and has great control techniques, takedowns and takedown defense… also, nothing wrong with learning from a friend/relative who is experienced and knows how to train/instruct don’t just go with cousin Marty who took TKD at age 7, if you have a buddy that has a couple belts up and knows his techniques get with him at least to start and get the basics of whatever art he knows down..
do not try to learn from books or videos.. shadowboxing however is a good idea, running, jump roping and eating right are also very good ideas.. push ups and sit ups and pull ups are good, you don’t need a home gym or anything expensive. wall sits and running stairs also are good for the legs.
A good training drill I like for jui jitsu is to lie next to a wall, arch up onto your shoulders and kick off the wall spinning yourself around and kicking off the wall to spin back around the other way.. learning to spin on your shoulders and basically fight off your back/shoulders is the foundation for your guard and other transitions.. cannot really get an arm bar or triangle choke if you are not comfortable on your shoulders.
the main thing is that you get started doing something to get comfortable until you can get money for classes.. do arm curls with a gallon of milk.. sounds stupid but it’s tiresome after a while.
